The new covid vaccine covers the 2023 Omicron descendant strain (XBB.1.5) and studies show that it neutralized (binds) to the new emerging Covid strain, BA.2.86. Newly approved are the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which are mRNA technology vaccines. The FDA is currently looking at the efficacy of a new Novavax vaccine created to be effective against the newer Covid variants. It is not an mRNA vaccine and can be given to those with PEG (polyethylene glycol) allergy or unable to take the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. We are seeing increasing Covid rates and increasing hospitalizations from Covid so getting a newer Covid vaccine could keep you out of the hospital. You can get the influenza vaccine at the same time you get a covid vaccine.
